Installation summary

Your installation will consist of:

  • Assembling a 4-post equipment rack
  • Installing the following equipment:
    • DCDC CS1 server
    • Wattbox smart power bar
  • Taking photographs of the installed equipment

What you should have

  • A laptop with an ethernet port
  • Flashlight
  • The rack comes with M8 (13mm) and M6 (10mm) wrenches, and a Philips screwdriver. All 3 are needed for the installation. The quality of the tools are good enough, but you may have a better set in your toolbox.

Installation steps

Tasks should be completed in this order:

Before starting work, email CineSend to let them know that you have arrived at the theatre and have been let in.

  1. Locate the TMS switch: This is the connection point between the cinema’s equipment and the new DCDC equipment that you are installing.
  2. Identify an ideal install location: The new equipment rack should be located as close to the TMS/LMS switch as possible.
  3. Plug everything in: Unbox and temporarily connect in the CS1 and Wattbox. Contact the NOC so that CineSend provision the server.
  4. Assemble the rack: While CineSend tests the setup, assemble the rack.
  5. Rack everything up: Transfer the equipment into the rack, and clean up the worksite.
  6. Document: Take photos of the installation and email them to CineSend.

Step 1: Locate the TMS switch

A theatre manager should be able to help you locate the TMS switch, which is sometimes called a LMS media switch. If the TMS switch cannot be located, contact the NOC. The NOC should contact CineSend.

Step 2: Identify an install location

The best location for the server rack is as close to the TMS switch as possible, with an outlet close by.

Strep 3: Plug everything in

  1. Use the Wattbox: Plug the Server into Controlled 1, and the Modem into Controlled 2

  1. Plug a cable from the VBand into the Wattbox Network port
  2. Plug a cable from the VBand into the ETH3 port of the DCDC CS1 server
    1. ETH3 is not always labelled. It is the vertical port on the far right.

  1. STOP, do not plug any other cables. Contact the NOC so that CineSend cab provision the server
  2. Once the NOC gives you the go ahead, plug a cable from the TMS/LMS switch into ETH2 port of the server
    1. Note that for all Regal locations, use port 21 on the TMS/LMS switch. If port 21 is already used, contact the NOC.
    2. Make sure to let the NOC know which port you used for non-Regal locations.

Step 4: Assemble the rack

Unbox and assemble the rack. The instructions included in the package can be unclear. Review these notes before you begin, and you may have an easier time:

  • Every piece needs to be put together, nothing is pre-installed.

  • Ref A, Side horizonal pieces
    • The first step should be to put together the side horizontal pieces.
    • The depth of the rack will be set at 0 and 0, the shortest depth possible.
  • Ref B, four vertical posts
    • These pieces are labelled left and right, make sure that the left and right are properly lined up. There are numbers on each side that help with this check. The numbers will match up horizontally.
  • Ref C, Bottom front and end pieces
    • The big lip should point out on both the front and back sides.
  • There are 4 levelling feet screws, and 4 casters. Only install the casters – the feet are not needed.
  • There will be 4 cable management hooks. These are optional to install.

Strep 5: Rack everything up

  1. Install the CS1 server in the lowest position of the rack. It only requires two rack screws, as indicates by the yellow circles:

  1. Tidy up your workspace.

Make sure all cables are organized and there are no tripping hazards.

The rack should look similar to the following picture:

Strep 7: Photo Documentation

Take the following photos and upload them to VSelect.

  • Photo 1: The bottom of the Wattbox, clearly capturing all text.
  • Photo 2: The back of the server showing the Serial Number, and the two cables plugged in. The serial number must be legible.
  • Photo 3: The TMS switch ethernet cable is plugged into.
  • Photo 4: The rack, showing the entire completed installation.
  • See photo in step 5.
